Lucy's Throwback Overalls

I think these are just so cute. I had a pair just like them when I was a little one. Aunt Allison came to visit and brought Lucy her new PHILLY sun hat. We are excited she and Mike may be our new neighbors. We can swap Lucy and Basie every now and then, so we can see what it's like to have a well-behaved Golden Retriever and they can see what it's like to have a wild 5-month-old :)

Momentous Saturday

Lucy joined us as we dropped off some old paint cans at the Arlington County household hazardous waste facility. Oh boy! We are planning to watch some basketball today (not Duke, obviously) and have a family nap.....we hope!!

Are You a Boy?

Or are you a girl..heyyyy--you look like a girl! That is a shout out to Julie. Many of you may not know, but that was a popular late '60s tune by the Barbarians. Anyway, Julie performed a memorable video "skit" to this song in elementary school, and Lucy's outfit today caused me to remember how hilarious it was. If someone can get that online, I think it would be a You Tube sensation. My point is that sometimes the boy clothes are so cute, as in the case of this little romper thing, I just have to buy them. I guess it's a good thing I'm not dressing my son in skirts and dresses :)

Happy Friday

Today we met Stacey and Michelle at Best Buns for coffee and a snack. Then Stacey and I got pedis while Lucy slept in her stroller. I love having friends with flexible jobs! We are making this Friday get together a regular thing. We enjoyed the warmer weather but are preparing for the cold again this weekend. Why can't spring be here already?? OH! We had a breakthrough on the sleeping front last night. Which means tonight she'll likely be up 4 times. Bed at 7:30 after nursing and 4 oz of formula, then mild squaking at 10:30 which I tried to ignore, then she was back to sleep until I had to wake her at 3:15 to nurse because....well anyone who's nursed knows about getting woken up with the pain!! Then slept till 6:30 which felt like noon to me:) I am going to work on getting her to sleep through that first awakening and hope my body will adjust to that schedule quickly.

Oatmeal Attempt

This photo pretty much sums up how our attempt at oatmeal went today. She hates rice cereal, so we went for the oats. Nope! I guess we will keep trying. Do any babies like solids at first??

Springtime in Washington

Ah..finally! The cherry blossoms are blooming, the crews are rowing and we can finally venture outside without looking like the Stay Puffed marshmallow man. Lucy and I met the moms at Hains Point this morning and then went to lunch at Tortilla Coast, one of my old haunts on Capitol Hill. We had a great day and nice walk for me, and a nap for Lucy. I feel like I've run a marathon after getting back into mom-baby fitness last night and taking an hourlong walk today. I am looking forward to more time outside with the little one!

5 Months Old!

Lucy is 5 months old today! Think we are at about 12 and a half lbs but we will weigh her on the 28th since that's when all her other weigh-ins have been. The most exciting thing is that lil tiny butt is finally outgrowing the size 1 diapers. She is trying to sit up but is more like a weeble wobble. As for sleep....yeah, we won't go there!

Standing

Lucy loves to stand up at all opportunities. We are convinced she's going to be mobile in a short while. She doesn't have much weight to move around so it may be easier for her!

Freedom

It's almost my last day of work...which feels really strange! I will be posting more regularly now that I'll be home with the little munchkin. As for Lucy, her eczema has improved dramatically since her Rx's from the dermatologist and sleeping is a bit improved. Down to wake-ups at 11 and 2:30 ish. If we could only get her to sleep past 5:30 it would be a miracle. We are attempting cereal again this weekend. So far, she hates it. I will post more pics soon!

SAHM

Well after a week at work, we've made the decision for me to stay at home with Lucy. I am going to miss all of my Edel-friends dearly, but we know this is the right decision for us. More blog entries to come. Quick updates: Lucy has still not been sleeping well, which we kind of blame on her cold, which she's given to both me and Gramma Judi. Her eczema has continued to flare and I've not had a latte or more than a pat of butter in 10 days (sigh). Off to the pediatric dermatologist tomorrow. Getting excited for Laura's twins shower this weekend!

The Sound of Silence

Lucy is asleep--yee haw! Poor thing is still getting over her cold. Soy formula was not the best idea; her skin broke out again this morning. Apparently babies sensitive to milk are also reactive to soy. Oh joy! We're going to try a bit of the hypoallergenic kind that smells like nasty cheese from what I've heard. Luckily, I've been nursing constantly so she hasn't needed any formula today. Daddy's home; he picked up Wendy's for dinner. We live such a gourmet lifestyle these days :)

Soy Delicious

Lucy had her first taste of soy formula today and she took it down no problem! Yeah! Too bad mom is DYING for some chocolate ice cream and a giant quesadilla. The good news is her skin is so much better since I've eliminated dairy mostly from my diet, so that's great. She's not quite as itchy as she was before but she's still so squirmy it won't be long before she launches herself off the changing table.

Work!

Lucy and I've survived the first week back! She did great with nanny granny in spite of a bad cold. She's still coughing and got gook in her nose. Needless to say, sleeping through the night was no where near on her agenda to make mom's first week back a breeze :) I'm learning to love the hum of the Medela pump in style and meditate/count down the minutes until I'm off the torture device. Lucy also had her first few bites of rice cereal from granny this week. She sort of hated it but takes it when washed down with sips from a bottle in between bites. And by bites I mean 1/10th of a spoonful, the majority of which ends up on her bib. She then drools and sucks the cereal off the bib. I imagine she took down a total of 1 teaspoon!

Sunday Smiles

Enjoying the last hours of freedom before momma goes to work! There have been requests on how sleeping is going....she's going down much easier at about 7:30-8. She gets up at either 11:30 or midnight, then at 3ish then at 6. BUT there are multiple whimperings between 3 and 6 that sometimes require attention or a brief feeding. She's taken to night/early AM poops in the crib....so that wakes her up for sure. The time awake for night snacking is down to about 20-30 minutes as well. Hopefully in about a month when we start cereal we can get down to one night wake up!

Not Quite...Mom's New Diet

We tried Lucy in her highchair.....um, she's not quite ready for it yet! The Bumbo seat will do for now so she can join us for dinner. Lucy has her first cold, so sad. She was very congested so we've been trying to get the gook out of her nose so she can nurse better. This is our last day of fun! Nanny Granny is coming this evening and I'm already totally hyper about my first day back tomorrow. We had a "pumping practice" day yesterday and she did pretty well taking her bottles. Went to dinner at Rustico last night in Alexandria and she was a total wiggle worm. Because poor Lucy's eczema is so bad I am now taking out dairy, nuts, shellfish and eggs from my diet. When she woke up Sat. AM she was covered in rash head to toe. I realized that I had eaten TONS of dairy the previous day so that's likely the culprit. No more ice cream! Boo! She was destined for allergies with me and Jud as parents. I've not moved her to the hypoallergenic formula yet because I figure me going back to work this week is enough shock to her system and she's not getting much more than a few oz. of formula each day anyway.
