Vintage Duke

Lucy's rocking her ACC champs 1977-78 t-shirt that I wore down at Duke when Gramps Jimbo was in law school. I love this shirt!! GO DUKE!!

Practice

Lucy is practicing for the Easter egg hunt. The ages are 2 and up, but I have a feeling this little one is not going to standy by idly and be left out. So I told her she had to do her best to act like a big girl who knew what she was doing and maybe they'd let her in. I guess giving this cheesy grin is part of her act. She does that whenever she sees the camera now. She certainly has the eating Easter candy part down. Re: first photo, Lucy is ever more independent and would likely walk down to the park by herself if I'd let her. She knows where everything in the neighborhood is now--Preston's house, the park and her own house.

Child Labor

Lucy loves to help now. With instructions, she can take a beer from me, take it over to Jud, wait for him to give her the cap and then return to me and put the cap into the trash. She loves it and gives herself a huge round of applause after completing the job. Here she is bringing Jud a DC this morning. She is bit confused, giving him the sign for thank you. When I or Jud say "thank you" to her for doing something, she does the sign back to me or Jud. Oh well, at least she's getting it!!

Playing with Food

Sometimes we really have to make a game of it to get Lucy to eat. One of her favorite games is to feed Jud and then feed herself. He makes a Cookie Monster type noise that cracks her up. Whatever works!!

A Bit of Lipstick

I think Ruby Red is my color.

It really makes my smile stand out.

Crash

This was a day I wish we could have taken a mulligan on. First we were denied a spot in the gym's daycare b/c I called too late, then we went for a walk outside and both stepped in dog doo and to top it all off, Lucy tripped on her phone in the kitchen and crashed into the oven door. See red bump above her right eye. It is a bit more pronounced when you see her in person. Hopefully a nice long nap will improve her spirits for St. Patty's Day!

Cindy and Cecil

Lucy's 2 favorite books are Cindy Bakes a Funny Cake and Pop Goes the Weasel, starring Mr. Cecil the weasel. She has fully dismembered both Cindy and Cecil (see above, Headless Cindy) and we fight to keep even a semblance of the original pop ups in the book. I actually ordered a new copy of Mr. Cecil used from Amazon b.c. she tore apart the first one I had. Cindy does not bake any cakes anymore in the book...how could she without a head? But it's still a classic. It was mine when I was little!

Fork Follies

It is a major achievement for Lucy to pick up one bunny with her fork. Go Lucy! Guess she's going to be right handed?

All Done!

Another one of Lucy's signs. She's covered in broccoli bits. Phew! We just finished hosting playgroup for about 10 babies ages 2 weeks to 17 months, plus mommies and a few grannies--it was a lot of fun and it wore Lucy out so she's snoozing away. We are looking forward to a relaxing weekend. Too bad the cold weather is back with a vengeance :(

ABC, ABC

Lucy has a little "Rain Man" in her as she recites "ABC" over and over again. no matter what she is doing or where she is. She has another favorite word, "upstairs", which sounds a lot like "ABC", so it's hard to figure out which is which. She has the Leapfrog fridge alphabet thing which she loves so I'm glad to see it's working (thanks Aunt Katie!). Here's to hoping we get to "D" and beyond in the next few months!

Higher, Higher!

Lucy does not like to be pushed at a leisurely pace on the swings; she wants to go as high as possible! There were about 500 people at the park this weekend. We finally got a turn on the swing after waiting in line for 10 minutes :)

Lucy Post-Workout

Anyone who has seen baby pics of Jud after a hearty day of outdoor play can recognize his traits in Lucy, the pinkest cheeks you have ever seen, and crazy hair. Mind you, it was in the 70s this weekend, so just imagine what she's going to look like this summer!

Waiting for DAYYYYYY

Lucy (and mommy) wait by the front door to see daddy's (DAYYY!) car lights as he pulls up each night. She laughs in a tee hee hee of glee as soon as she sees him. She was polishing the kitchen floor with her Patagonia as we slowly ran out of activities and bedtime drew near....

Baila Baila

We are just about to wrap up our winter session of Hola Baby and it has been awesome! Lucy is really learning some Spanish words (pie, mano, adios, adentro) and just loves the music and singing in the class. I think we are going to continue it into the spring session. I highly recommend it to all even if you don't know any Spanish!

Why Bother with the Oats?

I got Lucy some organic chocolate chip granola bars and she did her best to pick out all the chocolate chips and eat them, leaving the granola/oats on the tray (or more like on the floor). She knows where we keep the candy dish that usually has Kisses in it and she whines and points at that thing all day long!

BFFE

Lucy and Ollie, best friends forever! Lucy was giving him a smooch on the dome. The size differential between these 2 never ceases to amaze me. They are 10 months apart.

Doc

Lucy had her 16 month weigh-in yesterday and she was 20 lb. 2 oz! Yeah, she is in 7th percentile--back on the charts, baby! She also got her blood drawn (no lead, thankfully) and her chicken pox vac. She survived the hour and a half at the doc's office and had a nice nap after that.

Snowstorm of 09

We got more than 5 inches for the first time in years! Lucy seemed to like it but we need better snow gear for her.

Baba & Grandad's

Even though we had cold rain most of the weekend, we had a great time with the Allens! Lucy loved every minute of running through the big new house and had her first bubble bath in Baba's spa tub. She even went on the slide in the rain. We left just before the big snowstorm hit!
